Simple mode gives every seller three global controls: markup, buffer, and low-stock threshold. The rules engine (Plus and above) turns those into scoped policy: different markups per channel, bigger buffers on fragile categories, publishing rules per product family.
Rules run inside the same transform pipeline as simple mode, so there is one behavior to trust, per-channel pricing strategy.
